This certainly isn't the news Series 7 owners and developers were looking forward to, so here's to hoping Apple rolls out a fix soon. IconWorkshop creates PNG images with alpha channel in a few clicks including from existing Windows and Mac icons. Unix/Linux, Android & iOS use PNG images as icons.
In the meantime, a temporary solution is to switch the Apple Watch app view from 'grid' to 'list.' Open the Settings app on the Apple Watch, scroll down, tap 'App View,' and tap 'List View.' The icon for affected apps is still missing, but it's at least accompanied by the app name so users can still find it. You can create icons for Windows icons up to 768x768 for Windows 10 and MacOS icons up to 1024x1024 for OSX 10.11 El Capitan. In a follow-up Tweet, Thomas explains that "all this stuff works perfectly fine in the watchOS simulator for the Series 7." He also says that installing his apps on the Series 7 directly from Xcode "fixes the app icons and the complications." As such, something about how Apple's processing Series 7 icons and complications is getting messed up when they go through the App Store.Īt the time of publication, it's unclear how/when Apple will address this. So, what's causing all of this? Thomas believes it has something to do with the App Store. Unfortunately, some part of this process is causing those icons to disappear from the app drawer. Similarly, complications updated for the Series 7 also appear with incorrect sizes (as seen in the photo on the left).

Even in the world of Apple, new releases are still susceptible to things going wrong. The Series 7 certainly isn't the most exciting gadget of the year, but it is the best one money can buy for anyone in the market for a new Apple Watch.Īs with any product launch, however, nothing is perfect.
